Day 11, Friday 1 September 2017
The road out to Port Waikato is a very pleasant ride, with some long straights and getting more twisty as it gets closer to the sea. Lovely views over the Waikato River, which has its mouth at Port Waikato.
The town has few facilities. There is a general store and campground. There’s also a cafe, but it is closed during the winter, and only opens weekends for most of the rest of the year. There are extensive sand dunes out towards the river mouth, and a decent surf beach to the west.
Distance travelled: 185 km. Total distance so far: 1720 km
