Day 20, Sunday 10 September 2017
I went on the annual Bikers in Blue charity run today. It’s part of Blue September, organised by the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Despite it being gusty and with occasional showers, a good number of bikers turned out (over 200), and the rain stayed away almost entirely during the ride.
We met at Pakuranga Placemakers, completely taking over their carpark. On earlier rides, we’ve just taken a direct route to the motorway and gone up to Albany, but the route today went over city streets, including Tamaki Drive and Quay Street, joining the motorway at Fanshawe Street. It finished at Silverdale Placemakers, where we rode into their warehouse which had three big bays.
Thanks to the police who provided us with an escort and blocked off side roads so we could ride without stopping, to the Road Rats motorcycle club who did most of the organising, and most especially to Morgan Sobanja for his tireless efforts to promote this ride over many years.
