Long Bay development

Sparked by an article in the New Zealand Herald this morning, I went to see massive new housing and commercial development just inland from Long Bay in North Auckland. Apparently it is New Zealand’s largest greenfields residential project. Behind where I was standing when I took these photographs were several streets of new houses, most still with the finishing touches being added to them. I saw one “For sale” sign which offered a discount price of $1.1 million. For Auckland housing with a sea view, that doesn’t seem too bad.

I remember development of this area being controversial about ten years ago. Presumably this has all been resolved.
