Waikowhai Park

Day 74, Friday 3 November 2017

Waikowhai Park is down a steep drive from Hillsborough Road, and has an upper level with a playground and toilets, and a lower level at Faulkner Bay. It’s the largest block of native bush left in Auckland, and has nice views over Manukau Harbour. The beach is nothing special though. There are decent bush walks in either direction.

The park is named for the kōwhai trees which have lovely yellow flowers. I think the flowering must be over as I didn’t notice them on my visit. I did notice the pōhutukawa trees along the coast!

Distance travelled: 17 km. Total distance so far: 11,057 km
