Day 146, Sunday 14 January 2018.
I went exploring around the Whangarei Heads today. First stop was at Pataua South, a little batch community on the southern side of the Pataua Estuary. It’s joined to the similar community on the North side by a picturesque wooden footbridge. Apparently it’s a popular place to jump off at high tide. The tide wasn’t full when I was there, but there were people dangling from ropes and dropping into the water.
Ocean Beach is a lovely sandy surf beach on the Pacific Ocean.
The roads from Whangarei to these places are nice twisty sealed roads, but there are quite a number of small urban areas with reduced speed limits along the way.
Distance travelled: 428 km. Total distance so far: 19,446 km
I love that area. I have a good friend who lives on the Heads. So beautiful.
