Day 197, Tuesday 6 March 2018.
I took a group of Auckland Ulyssians around the Kaiaua loop today. I had ridden these roads eight days earlier on my way to Whitianga, so I knew they were badly damaged in places from January storms but not a great challenge to ride over. However, some of the twisty parts of the road (unaffected by the storms) had been resealed since then, leaving loose gravel on the surface. It is surprising how quickly a road can change!
We had lunch at The Pink Shop in Kaiaua, a place that does good basic lunches (filled rolls, sandwiches and pies) and decent coffee. A couple of months ago this shop was flooded and had to close. It’s good to see them back in business.
