Murphy’s bush

Day 228, Friday 6 April 2018

Murphy’s bush is an area of native bush in East Auckland. It’s dominated by tall trees, including kahikatea, totara and rimu. There are also numerous tree ferns. Well-formed paths meander through the mostly flat area, and although the traffic noise from nearby Murphy’s Road is always audible, bird noises predominate and there’s a feeling of peace. I heard a tui calling and I didn’t see it but heard the noisy flight of a keruru nearby. I think I also heard a morepork, although this was mid-afternoon and they’re normally only heard at night.

Distance travelled: 61 km. Total distance so far: 29,899 km
