After two days when my anticipated longer rides were cancelled due to weather, I took advantage of a fine day to get out of Auckland. The Awhitu Peninsula has always been one of my favourite areas to ride. Today I went to Orua Bay at Manukau Heads, which is on the road to Wattle Bay but a couple of km earlier. It’s a sandy beach facing north, with views across the Manukau Harbour to Huia. There’s a motor camp here, and the houses look more like baches than permanent residences.
