Craigavon Park

Day 262, Thursday 10 May 2018

I went to Craigavon Park in Blockhouse Bay today. It’s a substantial park, mostly covered by a forest with large pine trees and many natives, including tree ferns. A broad pathway through the forest has about eight exercise stations with simple structures which can be used to test strength or agility. About a third of the area is grassy. I saw many people strolling, and even more walking dogs. This would be a nice place to come for a picnic.

The land was donated to Auckland City in 1929 to be used as a park, and named after Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, who had recently visited New Zealand.

Distance travelled: 24 km. Total distance so far: 34,522 km
