Cape Rodney

Day 290, Thursday 7 June 2018

There’s a gravel road going east from the top of Goat Island Road which I’ve never explored, so today I went to see where it led. Cape Rodney Road runs along  a ridgeline giving great views of Little Barrier Island on one side and Leigh on the other. There’s a viewing platform a few hundred metres from the start of the road.

Cape Rodney Road becomes Omaha Block Access Road as it crosses a creek, and only authorised vehicles are permitted beyond that point. Mount Pleasant Road goes off to the south a little earlier, and that leads down to Leigh Scenic Reserve. I was pleased by this little bit of countryside I’d never visited before.

Distance travelled: 195 km. Total distance so far: 37,811 km
