Day 298, Friday 15 June 2018
I rode to Te Henga/Bethells Beach today, and walked along the beach to the south end, where there are a couple of caves. The main cave, which has an entrance visible from almost anywhere along the beach, is broad, high and deep, with natural light from the entrance sufficient to illuminate it entirely. It’s pretty impressive. There’s a smaller cave a little to the north east with a narrow entrance.
This is much less high (but still high enough to walk through) and narrow, but similarly deep. It twists so the natural light is lost after a few steps. You need a torch to explore this one.
I’ve never been there at night, but apparently there are glowworms in the caves.
Distance travelled: 79 km. Total distance so far: 38,490 km
