I joined a North Harbour Ulysses ride today which went along Scenic Drive, visited Karekare, and had lunch at Piha. This is a regular route for us. We stopped at a lookout point along Scenic Drive with a view over the central city and Waitemata Harbour. Scenic Drive winds through the Waitakere Ranges between Henderson and Titirangi with some very tight turns. It’s a favourite road for motorcyclists.
After the ride I called in to Arataki Visitor Centre, the heart of the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park, to get an updated map of which walking tracks are open. Most of the tracks were closed a couple of months ago to prevent the spread of kauri dieback. There are still more than a dozen tracks open, and I’ll walk some of them in the next couple of months.
