Today I rode to the Upper Mangatawhiri Dam in the Hunua Ranges. It’s at the end of a 6 km gravel road which starts just past the turn off to the Wairoa Dam (which I visited last month). Upper Mangatawhiri is very similar to Wairoa; they’re both rolled earth water supply dams, but this one is a bit larger.
